The New York Yankees delivered an impressive 6-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night, highlighted by standout performances from Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and pitcher Carlos Rodón.
Aaron Judge smashed his 49th home run of the season, while Giancarlo Stanton launched a three-run shot, marking his 450th career homer. Both sluggers struck early, with Stanton’s homer coming in the first inning after Tomoyuki Sugano retired the first two batters. Judge followed up by going deep in the third, continuing the Yankees’ trend of first-inning scoring. This was Judge’s league-leading 61st game with first-inning runs for the Yankees, who now hold a 42-19 record when doing so.
Carlos Rodón delivered a stellar outing on the mound, reaching a career-high in wins with a 17-9 record. The 32-year-old left-hander allowed just one run and four hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. Rodón kept the Orioles’ offense at bay, making the most of the early cushion provided by New York’s bats.
The injury-plagued Orioles reached an unfortunate milestone when José Espada entered in the seventh inning; he became Baltimore’s 70th player used this season, tying the major league record set by the Miami Marlins in 2024. Coby Mayo delivered the Orioles’ only run with an RBI double in the seventh.
With the win, the Yankees moved within two games of the first-place Toronto Blue Jays, who lost to the Kansas City Royals. Both New York and Toronto have seven games remaining in the regular season, but Toronto currently holds the tiebreaker over the Yankees.
Stanton’s 450 home runs are the most among active players. In baseball history, only Mark McGwire, Babe Ruth, Alex Rodriguez, and Harmon Killebrew reached more homers than Stanton in their first 1,719 career games.
The Yankees will send rookie right-hander Cam Schlittler (3-3, 3.41 ERA) to the mound for Sunday's series finale. The Orioles will counter with Kyle Bradish (1-1, 2.45 ERA), making his fifth start since returning from Tommy John surgery in late August.
The New York Yankees’ 6-1 win against the Baltimore Orioles showcased big home runs from Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, along with a dominant pitching effort by Carlos Rodón. The victory moves New York closer in the AL East standings as the regular season nears its end. Giancarlo Stanton's milestone home run and the Orioles tying the major league record for most players used this season are key talking points. The stage is set for the next matchup as both teams continue to battle through the final games of the season.
