ATLANTA – On Sunday, July 20, 2025, Aaron Judge blasted his 36th home run of the season, tying Alex Rodriguez for sixth place in Yankees history, as the New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves 4-2 at 12:35 PM MLB.
Judge’s solo homer in the first inning marked his 351st career home run with the Yankees, placing him alongside A-Rod. He remains behind franchise legends Babe Ruth (659), Mickey Mantle (536), Lou Gehrig (493), Joe DiMaggio (361), and Yogi Berra (358) on the all-time list.
Beyond his home run, Judge also scored from first base on Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s double in the seventh inning, contributing a significant run. Judge finished the game 1 for 4 with a walk and two runs scored.
Marcus Stroman delivered a strong pitching performance for the Yankees, working six innings in his fourth start since returning from a knee injury. He allowed just one run on five hits, with four strikeouts and no walks, in his longest outing of the season.
Offensively for New York, Paul Goldschmidt went 1 for 3 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored, while Giancarlo Stanton had an impressive day at the plate, going 3 for 5 with a run scored.
For the Braves, Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a solo home run, his 13th of the season, in the ninth inning off Devin Williams. Despite the late homer, Williams successfully earned his 14th save for the Yankees.
Matt Olson also contributed a powerful 442-foot home run, his 18th, which landed atop the Chop House in right field during the sixth inning, accounting for the Braves' other run.
Atlanta’s Grant Holmes (4-9) took the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits through six innings.
Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, the Braves had an opportunity to rally with the first two runners reaching base and the top of their order due up. However, Jurickson Profar popped a bunt up to third baseman Jorbit Vivas, and Matt Olson subsequently hit into a double play, squashing the threat.
The Yankees' victory maintained their position within three games of the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East standings, heading into a crucial three-game series in Toronto scheduled to begin on Monday.
