The Arizona Diamondbacks delivered a strong offensive performance to top the Milwaukee Brewers 6-4 on Thursday afternoon, earning a split in their four-game series against the team with the best record in Major League Baseball.
Nabil Crismatt made his third career MLB start and held the Brewers in check through 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander allowed eight hits and four runs—only two of them earned—while striking out two and walking one. Crismatt threw 60 of his 85 pitches for strikes, helping Arizona gain early momentum in the contest.
Milwaukee opened the scoring when Sal Frelick crushed his third leadoff home run of the season, but Arizona quickly answered with a big second inning. The Diamondbacks loaded the bases, and Tyler Locklear was hit by a pitch, forcing in the tying run. Ildemaro Vargas followed up with a two-run single, putting Arizona ahead 3-1. The Brewers answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to trim the deficit to 3-2.
Arizona’s offense stayed hot in the third inning, plating three more runs. Alek Thomas delivered a single that brought in two, and the Diamondbacks seized a commanding 6-2 lead. Isaac Collins responded for Milwaukee in the third with a two-run hit, narrowing the score to 6-4, but the Brewers would get no closer.
Brewers starter José Quintana struggled, surrendering six runs on five hits over just 3 2/3 innings. He threw a season-high 95 pitches but couldn’t settle in as Milwaukee was forced to play catch-up from the middle innings onward.
Arizona’s bullpen held the lead, highlighted by Taylor Rashi’s impressive major league debut. Rashi logged three scoreless innings to earn the save, retiring key hitters—including Christian Yelich with two runners on base—to clinch the win for the Diamondbacks.
The pivotal moment came in the seventh inning when Rashi entered with two runners on. The rookie struck out Andrew Vaughn and then froze Isaac Collins on a third strike to escape the jam, preserving the Diamondbacks’ narrow lead.
The Diamondbacks open a three-game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers on Friday with Zac Gallen (9-13, 5.13 ERA) set to start. The Brewers head to Toronto for the first of three games, where Freddy Peralta (15-5, 2.68 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound.
The Arizona Diamondbacks used a six-run surge against Milwaukee Brewers starter José Quintana and a solid start from Nabil Crismatt to earn a 6-4 win and split their four-game set. Taylor Rashi’s outstanding relief debut sealed the victory. With this win, Arizona stays competitive in the National League, while the Brewers look to bounce back as they head to Toronto.
