PHOENIX — Christian Walker singled home the go-ahead run in the ninth inning as the Houston Astros defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 on Wednesday, completing a three-game sweep.

Zack Short and Taylor Trammell led off the ninth inning with bunt singles against Kevin Ginkel. After one out, Walker, a former Diamondback, hit a grounder up the middle to score Short.

Josh Hader closed out the ninth inning to earn his 27th save. The Astros have now won four consecutive games and extended their lead in the AL West to six games.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the eighth inning, Arizona mounted a comeback. Geraldo Perdomo led off with a double off reliever Bennett Sousa. Ketel Marte followed with a single to drive in Perdomo, and Corbin Carroll then doubled to right field, advancing Marte to third. Marte scored the tying run on Josh Naylor’s single.

Astros pitcher Brandon Walter delivered a strong performance, holding the Diamondbacks to just one run and four hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out five, throwing an efficient 82 pitches.

Marte’s solo home run on Walter’s first pitch of the game marked his 20th of the season.

The Astros scored twice in the sixth inning to take the lead. Walker led off with a double off Brandon Pfaadt, and advanced to third on a double by Yainer Diaz. Walker scored when shortstop Perdomo committed an error on Brice Matthews’ grounder. Diaz then scored the go-ahead run on reliever Andrew Saalfrank’s wild pitch.

Houston extended their lead to 3-1 in the eighth inning when Diaz doubled off Trevor Richards to lead off and later scored on Mauricio Dubón’s single.

Geraldo Perdomo had an outstanding offensive night for Arizona, going 4 for 4.
