CLEVELAND — The Athletics secured an 8-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night, powered by late-game home runs from Shea Langeliers, Jacob Wilson, and Nick Kurtz.
The Guardians initially took the lead in the third inning when Nolan Jones singled, setting the stage for José Ramírez's 19th home run of the season off Athletics pitcher Luis Severino, giving Cleveland a 2-0 advantage. Ramírez has historically performed well against Severino, now boasting six hits and four home runs in 14 career at-bats against him.
The Athletics quickly responded in the top of the fourth. Brent Rooker, Nick Kurtz, and Shea Langeliers hit three consecutive doubles off Guardians starter Logan Allen, tying the score. Miguel Andujar then singled, marking a fourth consecutive hit for the A's and giving them a 3-2 lead.
The Athletics extended their lead in the eighth inning when Nick Kurtz led off with another double against Nic Enright. Langeliers followed with his 14th home run of the season, pushing the score to 5-2.
The scoring continued in the ninth for the Athletics. Denzel Clarke tripled, falling just a home run short of the cycle. Jacob Wilson then launched his 10th home run, and Nick Kurtz capped the offensive outburst with his 18th homer, which leads all rookies, solidifying the 8-2 win.
Luis Severino (3-11) earned the win for the Athletics, allowing only three hits and two runs—both on Ramírez's homer—over five innings. Notably, all three of Severino's victories this season have come on the road. Jack Perkins contributed three scoreless innings in relief, striking out three, before Justin Sterner closed out the game in the ninth.
For the Guardians, Logan Allen (6-8) pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. Relief pitcher Nic Enright allowed two runs on three hits while recording four outs. Kolby Allard gave up both home runs in the ninth inning.
Langeliers' opposite-field homer off a 0-2 pitch from Enright in the eighth inning provided the Athletics with a crucial three-run cushion, effectively putting the game out of reach for the Guardians.
Despite the Athletics' victory, Cleveland maintains a strong historical record against them, having won 20 of the last 25 matchups between the two teams.
The series concludes on Sunday with Athletics left-hander Jeffrey Springs (8-6, 3.93 ERA) slated to start against Guardians right-hander Gavin Williams (5-4, 3.70 ERA).

Luis Severino pitched five innings for his third road win of the season, overcoming an early two-run homer from José Ramírez. The Athletics responded by tying and taking the lead in the fourth inning, then significantly extended their advantage in the eighth and ninth. This victory marked a notable road win for the Athletics, despite the Guardians' historical dominance in their matchups.
