MILWAUKEE — Blake Perkins singled home the winning run in the ninth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied to beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Milwaukee erased a 2-1 deficit by scoring in each of the final two innings to avoid the sweep. The Brewers have been swept just once this season, in their opening series at Yankee Stadium.
In the pivotal ninth inning, Eric Haase hit a one-out bloop single to center off Cade Gibson (2-5) and advanced to third on Brice Turang’s broken-bat double down the left-field line. Gibson intentionally walked Jackson Chourio to load the bases.
Perkins then lofted a 3-2 pitch well over the head of center fielder Dane Myers, securing the walk-off victory for the Brewers.
Perkins had also scored the tying run in the eighth inning. After entering as a pinch-runner, he stole second and came home on Andrew Vaughn’s two-out, ground-rule double off Ronny Henriquez.
Milwaukee’s Trevor Megill (3-2) allowed a two-out double to Javier Sanoja in the top of the ninth, but right fielder Isaac Colins made a running catch of a fly ball to end the Marlins' threat.
For the Miami Marlins, Heriberto Hernández homered for a second straight game.
Miami led 2-1 and had runners on first and second with one out in the seventh when the Marlins ran themselves out of an inning. Aaron Ashby picked off Dane Myers at second base. Ashby then caught Xavier Edwards leaning off first and threw to Vaughn, who threw Edwards out at second. Edwards initially was ruled safe, but a replay review overturned the call, ending the Marlins' scoring chance.
Jackson Chourio doubled twice against the Marlins, extending his impressive hitting streak to 20 games. This marks a significant achievement for Chourio, placing him among notable Brewers sluggers. Paul Molitor holds the franchise record with a 39-game hitting streak set in 1987. Other Brewers who have achieved hitting streaks of at least 20 games include Davey May in 1973, Ryan Braun in 2011, Cecil Cooper in 1980, and Corey Hart in both 2007 and 2010.
Following their victory over the Marlins, the Brewers remain tied for first place in the NL Central division with the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs secured a 5-4 win against the Chicago White Sox earlier on Sunday, July 27, keeping pace with Milwaukee.
The Miami Marlins will head to St. Louis for a three-game series. The scheduled starting pitchers for Monday's series opener are Edward Cabrera (4-4, 3.48 ERA) for Miami and Andre Pallante (5-7, 4.91 ERA) for St. Louis.
The Milwaukee Brewers will host the Chicago Cubs for a highly anticipated three-game series beginning Monday, July 28. This series will feature an All-Star pitching matchup with Milwaukee's Jacob Misiorowski (4-1, 2.45 ERA) taking the mound against Chicago's Matthew Boyd (11-3, 2.20 ERA).
On Sunday, July 27, 2025, the Milwaukee Brewers secured a dramatic 3-2 walk-off victory over the Miami Marlins, thanks to Blake Perkins' ninth-inning single. This win prevented a series sweep at home and kept the Brewers tied for first in the NL Central with the Chicago Cubs. Key moments included the Brewers' late-game rally, highlighted by Perkins scoring the tying run in the eighth and the winning run in the ninth, and Jackson Chourio extending his hitting streak to 20 games. The Marlins' offense saw Heriberto Hernández homer for a second consecutive game. The Brewers now look ahead to a crucial series against the Cubs, while the Marlins travel to St. Louis.
