The Colorado Rockies earned a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday in their last home game of a challenging season at Coors Field. Solid pitching from Kyle Freeland, coupled with a home run and two RBIs from Blaine Crim, helped the Rockies secure the win and prevent them from matching the record for most losses in a National League season.
Kyle Freeland delivered six strong innings on the mound, allowing only one run after a rocky first inning. Freeland (5-16) retired 13 of 14 batters at one point, working out of a first-inning jam with back-to-back strikeouts and finishing his outing with a clutch double play to end the sixth. Victor Vodnik closed out the game, recording his 10th save of the season.
Blaine Crim powered the Rockies’ offense with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning and added a key RBI groundout in the eighth. Colorado's other run came in the second when three walks by Angels starter Caden Dana (0-3) set up Kyle Karros’ game-tying sacrifice fly.
Mike Trout, fresh off his 400th career home run the previous night, doubled and scored in the first inning on a Jo Adell single. Despite putting runners on first and third with only one out, the Angels failed to capitalize as Freeland struck out the next two batters. The Angels, who went 1-9 on their final road trip, managed only four hits in the contest.
Freeland's impressive outing included seven strikeouts, one walk, and a critical sixth-inning double play to preserve the lead. Caden Dana, making the start for Los Angeles, did not allow a hit through three innings but walked four batters, leading to the Rockies’ tying run.
The Rockies bullpen backed up Freeland and Vodnik, blanking the Angels over the game’s final three innings to secure the victory.
Colorado improved to 43-113 on the season, ensuring they would not match or exceed the 1962 New York Mets’ record of 120 losses in a season. The Rockies finished 25-56 at home, setting the mark for most home losses in franchise history, surpassing the previous high of 46.
The Angels return home to host the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday for their final homestand of the season, with the starting pitcher still to be announced. The Rockies begin a three-game series in Seattle on Tuesday, sending right-hander McCade Brown (0-4, 9.17 ERA) to the mound.
The Colorado Rockies defeated the Los Angeles Angels 3-1 in their final home game of the 2025 MLB season, powered by Kyle Freeland’s strong pitching and Blaine Crim’s home run. The Rockies avoided a historic loss milestone, while the Angels struggled offensively. Key moments included Freeland’s seven strikeouts and Colorado setting a franchise record for home losses. Both teams now look ahead to their remaining games to close out the season.
