The Arizona Diamondbacks delivered a commanding performance at Chase Field, defeating the Boston Red Sox 10-5 in an exciting MLB showdown. Corbin Carroll and Ildemaro Vargas powered the offense, each blasting a three-run homer to fuel the win.
With this win, Arizona continued its late-season surge, notching their seventh victory in nine games and extending their current streak to three. The Diamondbacks improved to 71-71, reaching the .500 mark for the first time since July 20, thus keeping themselves within striking distance of the National League wild-card race.
The loss marked two consecutive defeats for Boston, dropping them to a half-game behind the New York Yankees for second place in the AL East contention.
Leading 6-1 after seven innings, the Diamondbacks faced a late rally from Boston, who scored four runs in the eighth to narrow the gap. However, Arizona responded with authority in their half of the inning. Geraldo Perdomo sparked the outburst with an RBI single, followed by Corbin Carroll launching his 30th home run of the season, a three-run blast to right field, widening the gap to 10-5.
Geraldo Perdomo enjoyed a four-hit night, including a solo homer. Starter Eduardo Rodriguez provided six solid innings for Arizona, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four to earn the win.
For Boston, Alex Bregman delivered a two-run double, Romy Gonzalez added a sacrifice fly, and Rob Refsnyder contributed an RBI double during the team’s eighth-inning surge.
Peyton Tolle, making his second MLB start for Boston after a stellar debut, struggled on the mound. The left-hander lasted only three innings, yielding five runs on five hits and four walks while recording two strikeouts. Vargas capitalized in the third inning, clubbing a three-run homer to left after consecutive walks issued by Tolle.
Diamondbacks reliever Andrew Saalfrank halted Boston’s momentum in the eighth by striking out Nate Eaton to preserve a slim 6-5 lead before Arizona broke the game open in the bottom half of the frame.
With his 30th home run of the season, Corbin Carroll reached 81 career homers at just 25 years of age.
The series continues Saturday night as Arizona sends right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (12-8, 5.33 ERA) to the mound to face Boston righty Lucas Giolito (10-2, 3.38 ERA).
The Arizona Diamondbacks powered their way to a 10-5 win over the Boston Red Sox thanks to three-run homers by Corbin Carroll and Ildemaro Vargas, solid pitching from Eduardo Rodriguez, and a strong eighth inning outburst. Boston’s late surge fell short as pitching struggles and explosive Arizona bats made the difference, keeping Arizona’s playoff hopes alive and impacting the AL East standings.
