Dean Kremer delivered a dominant performance, allowing just three singles over seven scoreless innings as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 on Sunday.
Kremer (7-7) was sharp, striking out six and walking one. He continued a strong stretch, having surrendered only two runs in his last three starts spanning 17 2/3 innings. This outing marked the fourth time in 16 starts that he completed seven innings.
Keegan Akin took over for Kremer in the eighth. He was immediately aided by a highlight-reel defensive play from Colton Cowser in left field, who robbed Danny Jansen of a two-run home run.
Brandon Lowe broke up the shutout in the top of the ninth, hitting his 18th home run off Félix Bautista to extend his personal hitting streak to 16 games. However, Bautista quickly shut the door, striking out Jonathan Aranda, whose 13-game hitting streak ended, followed by strikeouts of Jake Mangum and Curtis Mead to secure the win.
The Orioles' offense got started early against Rays starter Taj Bradley (5-6). Ramón Laureano led off the second inning with a double, and Cowser followed with a single, driving in Laureano for a 1-0 lead.
Bradley retired nine straight hitters before Gary Sánchez and Cedric Mullins singled to begin the fifth. Coby Mayo made it three straight singles to double the lead to 2-0, and Ramón Urías added a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
Kevin Kelly replaced Bradley in the sixth with two runners on and one out. Sánchez singled to score Ryan O'Hearn, and Mullins added another sacrifice fly, extending Baltimore's advantage to 5-0. Bradley finished having allowed five runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.
The Rays had an opportunity in the first inning with two runners aboard and one out, but Kremer navigated the jam effectively. After that, he permitted only one single and one walk over the subsequent six innings, stifling the Tampa Bay lineup.
Highlighting the variability of the series, the two teams combined for a substantial 44 runs across the first two games before Sunday's lower-scoring affair, which resulted in a series split.
Tampa Bay is scheduled to return home to host the Athletics for a three-game series starting Monday. Neither team has announced their starting pitcher for the opener.
Baltimore embarks on a six-game road trip, beginning Monday with the first of three games against the Texas Rangers. Like the Rays and Athletics, neither the Orioles nor the Rangers have announced a starting pitcher for the series opener.
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 on June 29, 2025, securing a split of the series. The win was anchored by an outstanding pitching performance from Dean Kremer, who threw seven scoreless innings. The Orioles offense was timely, with key hits from Colton Cowser, Coby Mayo, and others contributing to the five runs. Despite a late home run by Brandon Lowe, the Rays' offense was largely contained by Kremer and the Orioles bullpen. This game followed two high-scoring contests earlier in the series. Both teams look ahead to new series beginning Monday.
