The Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the Cincinnati Reds 7-0 on Monday night at Dodger Stadium, regaining sole possession of first place in the NL West. Emmet Sheehan delivered a stellar pitching performance, and Andy Pages powered the offense with two home runs.
Emmet Sheehan pitched a career-long seven innings, allowing only two hits and striking out 10 batters, matching his personal best. The only hits off Sheehan came from former Dodger Gavin Lux’s double in the second inning and a single by Austin Hays in the seventh. Sheehan issued just one walk to secure his fifth win of the season.
Rookie Andy Pages was the spark for the Dodgers’ offense. He homered into the left-field bullpen leading off the third inning against Reds starter Hunter Greene and followed with another home run to left in the fifth after Michael Conforto’s leadoff double. Pages finished the night with three RBIs, including a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
Los Angeles extended their lead in the sixth inning by taking advantage of Cincinnati errors. Freddie Freeman doubled and Will Smith walked before Pages reached on an error by Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz. Left fielder Austin Hays compounded the mistake with an errant throw, resulting in both Freeman and Smith scoring to make it 5-0.
Mookie Betts added to the tally with a solo shot in the seventh inning off reliever Sam Moll. The Dodgers consistently applied pressure, ultimately pushing across seven runs on the night.
Dodgers outfielders Michael Conforto and Teoscar Hernández were key defensively, robbing the Reds of multiple extra-base hits. Conforto made an impressive catch at the wall to deny Spencer Steer, while Hernández made two highlights-worthy plays—a leaping grab against Ke’Bryan Hayes and a one-handed, back-to-the-plate catch on Jose Trevino’s liner. Hernández also ran into the scoreboard securing a fly ball off Matt McLain in the fifth inning.
Freddie Freeman’s double in the sixth was his 33rd of the year and the 541st of his career, moving him into a tie for 37th on the all-time Major League list with Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby.
The series continues Tuesday as Cincinnati right-hander Nick Martinez (10-9, 4.59 ERA) faces Los Angeles left-hander Clayton Kershaw (8-2, 3.13 ERA).
