The Seattle Mariners edged out the Chicago White Sox 4-3 in an 11-inning thriller, completing a three-game sweep at home. Dominic Canzone played the hero, singling home the winning run to seal the victory for Seattle.
Randy Arozarena provided a boost for the Mariners with a two-run homer in the third inning, matching his career high with his 23rd home run. This early spark set the tone and helped Seattle move within 1.5 games of first-place Houston in the AL West. The sweep marked the Mariners' first series sweep since mid-July.
The Chicago White Sox continued their impressive home run pace, leading MLB with 37 home runs since the All-Star break. Michael A. Taylor went deep in the fifth and Brooks Baldwin added a solo shot in the seventh. Luis Robert Jr. delivered a strong performance, going 3-for-4 with a double and reaching base four times. He also swiped his 100th career stolen base, joining an elite list in franchise history with 100 home runs and 100 steals.
Both teams traded runs in the 10th inning. Lenyn Sosa scored on a wild pitch by Mariners reliever Eduard Bazardo to give the White Sox a 3-2 advantage. However, Seattle tied it up in the bottom half after a throwing error by third baseman Josh Rojas allowed Randy Arozarena to cross the plate.
In the 11th, the White Sox intentionally walked Mitch Garver, setting up a lefty-lefty battle between pitcher Brandon Eisert and Dominic Canzone. Canzone connected on a slider, driving it through the right side to bring in automatic runner Eugenio Suárez from second. It was Canzone’s first walk-off hit in the Major Leagues.
Seattle starter Logan Gilbert delivered five strong innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out six. Reliever Jackson Kowar pitched a flawless 11th for the win, improving his record to 2-0.
For Chicago, starter Shane Smith matched his career best with eight strikeouts across five innings, surrendering two runs. The White Sox bullpen kept the game close into extra innings but could not hold off Seattle’s late surge.
The White Sox return home to face the Cleveland Guardians in a three-game series. Right-hander Aaron Civale (3-6, 3.99 ERA) is scheduled to start on Friday night for Chicago.
The Mariners will host the Tampa Bay Rays for a weekend series, with Luis Castillo (8-6, 3.22 ERA) taking the mound on Friday night.
The Seattle Mariners completed a dramatic 4-3 win in 11 innings over the Chicago White Sox, highlighted by Dominic Canzone’s walk-off single. Randy Arozarena powered the offense with a home run, and strong pitching performances carried the Mariners throughout. Despite the White Sox’s persistent power display and a milestone-stealing accomplishment by Luis Robert Jr., Chicago could not avoid the sweep. Both teams look to regroup in their next series as the season heats up.
