The Miami Marlins delivered a strong performance to secure a 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Edward Cabrera was the star of the night, striking out 10 batters over seven scoreless innings and allowing just one hit while walking two.
Offensively, Troy Johnston drove in the Marlins’ first run with an RBI double in the fifth inning after Otto López led off with a walk and stole second. Máximo Acosta added insurance with a solo home run to center field in the eighth inning, marking his third homer of the season.
For the Braves, rookie Drake Baldwin kept hopes alive with his 14th home run, a solo shot in the ninth inning. However, Calvin Faucher secured his 12th save by getting Ozzie Albies to ground out for the final out.
Edward Cabrera rebounded impressively after struggling in his previous two starts, where he yielded nine earned runs across 9 2/3 innings. In this outing, he silenced the Braves’ bats and set the tone for the Marlins’ victory.
On the other side, Atlanta’s Spencer Strider performed well but took the loss, conceding three hits, three walks, and striking out three over seven innings. Strider also reached a milestone by recording his 600th career strikeout during the game.
In the sixth inning, Cabrera found himself in a jam after walking Jurickson Profar, who then stole second. Cabrera remained poised, striking out Matt Olson and retiring Ronald Acuña Jr. on a forceout to end the threat and maintain the Marlins' slim lead.
Late in the game, Miami’s bullpen held strong. Tyler Zuber and Josh Simpson navigated out of a potential rally in the eighth, preserving the advantage and setting up Faucher for the save.
The series continues as Braves right-hander Hurston Waldrep (4-0, 0.73 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound against Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara (7-11, 6.04 ERA) in the next game.
The Miami Marlins secured a 2-1 win over the Atlanta Braves thanks to a dominant pitching performance from Edward Cabrera and timely hits from Troy Johnston and Máximo Acosta. Cabrera’s 10 strikeouts and seven scoreless innings provided the foundation for the victory, while Miami’s bullpen held off a late Braves surge. Spencer Strider notched his 600th career strikeout for Atlanta, but the Braves ultimately fell short. The two teams will continue their series with a promising pitching matchup in the next game.
