The Arizona Diamondbacks secured a dramatic 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins in a 10-inning MLB matchup in Minneapolis. Gabriel Moreno delivered the go-ahead run with an infield single in the top of the 10th inning, helping Arizona stay within reach in the National League wild card race.
With two outs and runners on second and third in the 10th, Gabriel Moreno hit a slow chopper deep into the shortstop hole against reliever Cole Sands. Brooks Lee fielded the ball but Moreno beat the throw by half a step, driving in the decisive run and giving the Diamondbacks a 3-2 edge.
Two batters later, Blaze Alexander followed up with a two-run double, widening the lead and securing the insurance runs Arizona needed to close out the victory.
Arizona starter Ryne Nelson was impressive on the mound, allowing only four hits and tallying four strikeouts over six scoreless innings. The Diamondbacks initially gained the advantage in the fourth thanks to Adrain Del Castillo’s double and Alek Thomas’ two-run home run, launching a fastball from Twins starter Joe Ryan into the right-field plaza.
Joe Ryan, however, struggled through four innings for Minnesota, requiring 93 pitches while giving up four hits, two runs, and two walks alongside four strikeouts.
The Twins staged a late-game comeback, tying the contest in the eighth inning on a clutch two-run single from Kody Clemens. However, Minnesota was unable to break through against Arizona’s bullpen. John Curtiss pitched two scoreless innings and earned the win for Arizona.
In the bottom of the second inning, Minnesota loaded the bases with no outs. Ryne Nelson responded by striking out the next two batters and retiring James Outman on a grounder, keeping the game scoreless and shifting the momentum in Arizona’s favor.
Twins starter Joe Ryan faced challenges in his recent outings, posting a 1-3 record with a 7.36 ERA over his last five starts (18 earned runs in 22 innings).
The Diamondbacks and Twins conclude their series on Sunday, with Arizona RHP Nabil Crismatt (2-0, 3.24 ERA) slated to face Minnesota RHP Bailey Ober (5-7, 5.08 ERA).
The Arizona Diamondbacks triumphed over the Minnesota Twins 5-2 in a tense extra-inning contest, highlighted by Gabriel Moreno’s clutch 10th-inning RBI, strong pitching from Ryne Nelson, and Alek Thomas’ two-run homer. Despite a late rally by the Twins, the Diamondbacks’ bullpen held firm. The series wraps up in Minneapolis with both teams looking to gain crucial wins as the playoff race intensifies.
