Los Angeles Dodgers News & Updates

Willy Adames homered in the second inning and hit a two-run triple in San Francisco's five-run fifth as the Giants defeated the rival Los Angeles Dodgers 8-7 on Friday night, handing the Dodgers their seventh straight loss.

San Francisco's victory narrowed the gap, bringing them within four games of the first-place Dodgers in the NL West standings.

Dominic Smith homered leading off the fifth inning. This followed Jung Hoo Lee's two-run triple in the fourth that gave San Francisco the lead against Dustin May (5-6). Lee also contributed in the fifth by beating out an infield single to drive in another run.

Shohei Ohtani hit his 32nd home run of the season, a go-ahead two-run shot in the third inning that landed in McCovey Cove beyond the right-field wall.

Ohtani's blast came after Hyeseong Kim’s leadoff single marked the first hit of the night against Logan Webb (9-6). Webb, who walked Ohtani in a nine-pitch battle to start the game, finished his outing allowing six runs on six hits with six strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

Camilo Doval secured his 15th save despite allowing Mookie Betts' single and walking Freddie Freeman. He ended the game by inducing Will Smith to ground into a double play.

Ohtani connected on a 91.1 mph cutter on Webb’s first pitch of the at-bat, sending the ball an estimated 410 feet.

Michael Conforto's two-run homer in the sixth inning chased Webb from the game after Webb hit Betts with a pitch.

The current seven-game losing streak is the worst for the Dodgers since they dropped 11 straight games from September 2-11, 2017.

May, who had previously beaten the Giants on June 15, was charged with seven earned runs on five hits across 4 2/3 innings in this outing.

Key Play

Following his triple, Jung Hoo Lee was initially called out at home on a fly ball hit by Casey Schmitt, due to a strong throw from left fielder Michael Conforto. The Giants challenged the call, but it was upheld after review.

Key Stat

Shohei Ohtani's home run marked the 65th time an opposing player has hit a home run into the water at Oracle Park in its 25-year history. It was the 171st overall splash hit at the park; 35 of those belong to Barry Bonds.

The series continues with Shohei Ohtani (0-1, 1.50 ERA) scheduled to pitch for the Dodgers on Saturday. He will face Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (6-5, 3.39 ERA).
