The San Francisco Giants mounted a dramatic ninth-inning comeback to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3, taking the series at American Family Field.
Trailing 3-2 in the top of the ninth inning, the Giants rallied with crucial hits. Matt Chapman led off the frame with a double, and Luis Matos followed with a one-out single. Brewers closer Trevor Megill struck out pinch-hitter Rafael Devers and then walked Jung Hoo Lee, loading the bases for Heliot Ramos. Ramos, who had struggled recently and was 0 for his last 12, delivered a clutch two-run single on a 2-1 fastball, driving in Chapman and Matos to give San Francisco the lead.
Luis Matos made a big impact on the game, continuing his hot streak with a two-run homer earlier and finishing 2-for-5. Although he is batting just .209 on the season, Matos is 8 for his last 15 with two home runs over his last four games.
The Brewers took a 3-2 lead when Caleb Durbin opened the fifth inning with a solo home run off Giants starter Robbie Ray. Brandon Lockridge and Christian Yelich also contributed RBI singles for Milwaukee. However, closer Trevor Megill (5-3) was unable to secure the win, blowing his third save opportunity in the last four chances.
Ryan Walker closed out the game for the Giants, allowing a two-out single to Sal Frelick before striking out Anthony Seigler for his 11th save. José Buttó (4-3) provided a scoreless eighth to earn the win.
The victory marked the Giants' first series win since early August when they took two of three at Pittsburgh.
The Brewers honored legendary broadcaster Bob Uecker by wearing “UECK” on the back of their jerseys. Uecker, who called Brewers games for 54 seasons, was remembered with a pregame ceremony following his passing in January at age 90.
The game ended dramatically when Anthony Seigler was caught looking at a 3-2 pitch on the inside corner, sealing the Giants’ comeback victory.
The Giants have a day off before opening a three-game home series against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. Justin Verlander (1-10, 4.64 ERA) is set to pitch for San Francisco.
The Brewers will begin a four-game home series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. Arizona will send Eduardo Rodríguez (5-7, 5.40 ERA) to the mound, while Brandon Woodruff (4-1, 2.47 ERA) starts for Milwaukee.
The San Francisco Giants staged a thrilling comeback in the ninth inning to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3, highlighted by Heliot Ramos’s clutch two-run single and Luis Matos’s continued hot streak. The victory gave the Giants their first series win since early August and saw the Brewers pay tribute to the late Bob Uecker. Both teams look to build momentum as they begin new series following this exciting finish.
