The Houston Astros put an end to their four-game losing streak with a decisive 7-2 win against the Baltimore Orioles. Home runs from Christian Walker and Yainer Diaz, alongside a standout five-hit performance by Jesús Sánchez, powered the Astros' offense on Thursday night in Baltimore.
Houston wasted no time jumping on Orioles rookie pitcher Brandon Young, scoring multiple runs in the opening innings. Christian Walker sparked the Astros’ offense with a two-run homer in the first inning. The momentum continued as Carlos Correa's two-run single in the second extended their lead. Yainer Diaz added to the tally in the third with a two-run shot after an RBI single by Sánchez, putting the Astros up 7-1 early in the game.
Sánchez, who had struggled with an 0-for-29 drought, broke through with a single in the first and went on to finish 5-for-5. This matched his career high for hits and marked his most productive day since joining the Astros in a trade from Miami on July 31.
Baltimore starter Brandon Young (1-7) struggled throughout the outing, giving up seven runs and nine hits before leaving in the sixth inning due to a left hamstring injury. Young had held Houston to just one hit in their previous meeting six days earlier but could not replicate that success in Baltimore.
Astros' right-hander Jason Alexander (4-1) delivered a solid performance, allowing two runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. Since joining the Astros from the Athletics in May, Alexander has posted impressive numbers with four wins and a save over eight appearances.
For the Orioles, Dylan Beavers provided a bright spot with his first major league home run in the second inning and drove in Baltimore’s second run with a groundout in the sixth. The Orioles entered the matchup having won three in a row and six out of their last seven games.
Key Moment: Christian Walker’s 17th home run of the season with two outs in the first inning fueled Houston’s early surge and set the pace for the rest of the game.
Key Stat: In addition to Sánchez breaking his slump, Astros catcher Victor Caratini ended his own struggles with a second-inning single, snapping an 0-for-17 run.
Up next, the Houston Astros send right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. (2-4, 6.90 ERA) to the mound against Baltimore lefty Cade Povich (2-6, 4.98 ERA) in the next matchup.
The Houston Astros broke a four-game losing streak with a strong 7-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles, thanks to home runs from Christian Walker and Yainer Diaz, as well as a five-hit night from Jesús Sánchez. Early offense and a solid pitching effort from Jason Alexander propelled Houston past Baltimore, whose starter Brandon Young struggled and left with an injury. The victory keeps the Astros on top in the AL West as they look ahead to the next game in the series.
