The Miami Marlins secured a 5-3 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays, led by Jakob Marsee's bases-loaded triple and a dominating pitching performance from Eury Pérez. Pérez limited Toronto to just three hits into the seventh inning, contributing significantly to Miami's win.
Eric Wagaman homered and scored twice for the Marlins, providing a strong offensive presence. Agustín Ramírez added an RBI single, helping extend Miami’s lead. Starting pitcher Eury Pérez improved to 6-3 on the season after allowing only two runs in over six innings, walking just one batter and striking out four.
Pérez left the game in the seventh with two runners on. Reliever Lake Bachar then surrendered a three-run home run to Daulton Varsho, which brought the Blue Jays within a run. Varsho’s blast, his 15th of the season, traveled 424 feet over the center field fence.
In the bottom of the seventh, Ramírez's RBI single reestablished a two-run advantage for Miami. Toronto threatened in the eighth inning when Bachar gave up two-out walks to Nathan Lukes and Bo Bichette. Ronny Henriquez relieved and retired pinch-hitter Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on a popup, in Guerrero’s first appearance of the series after missing four games due to a hamstring injury.
Miami closer Tyler Phillips pitched a perfect ninth inning to lock down his second save of the season.
The Marlins took their first lead of the series in the third inning with Wagaman's solo home run. Marsee's key triple in the fifth further extended Miami’s advantage to 4-0.
Toronto's starting pitcher, Kevin Gausman, fell to 8-10 after allowing four runs and seven hits while striking out seven over six innings.
Prior to the game, retired second baseman Luis Castillo was inducted into the Marlins’ Hall of Fame. Castillo played ten seasons in Miami and helped the club capture two World Series championships in 1997 and 2003.
Jakob Marsee also doubled and scored a run. The rookie has collected 17 extra-base hits and 23 RBI in just 23 games since his call-up from Triple-A on August 1.
The Blue Jays return to Toronto to open a three-game home series against the Minnesota Twins. Max Scherzer (4-2, 3.60 ERA) will get the start for Toronto, while Joe Ryan (12-6, 2.77 ERA) takes the mound for Minnesota.
The Marlins will start Edward Cabrera (6-7, 3.52 ERA) as they begin a three-game home set against the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta’s starting pitcher has not been announced.
The Miami Marlins defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 thanks to standout contributions from Jakob Marsee and Eury Pérez. Key moments included a three-run homer by Toronto's Daulton Varsho and Luis Castillo’s Hall of Fame induction in Miami. Toronto’s late rallies were thwarted by Miami’s bullpen, securing a vital win for the Marlins as both teams look ahead to challenging upcoming series.
