Jo Adell delivered a power-packed performance, homering and driving in every run for the Los Angeles Angels in a competitive 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
Adell was the offensive catalyst all night, smashing a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning for the second game running. The deep center field shot on the first pitch from Royals reliever John Schreiber gave the Angels a 3-2 edge. Adell later added a clutch RBI single in the eighth after Yoán Moncada doubled, extending his career-high totals to 33 home runs and 90 RBIs.
Reid Detmers secured the save with two strikeouts in the ninth inning, his third save of the season. Angels reliever Robert Stephenson (1-0) was credited with the win after working through a tough seventh inning.
Star outfielder Mike Trout missed another game due to a skin infection on his left arm, leaving a notable hole in the Angels lineup.
Salvador Perez stayed hot with his 33rd double of the season, the 625th extra-base hit of his career, tying him for third all-time in the Royals franchise. Adam Frazier came through with a key RBI double in the seventh to tie the game. Mike Yastrzemski’s sacrifice fly in the first helped the Royals grab an early 2-0 lead.
Rookie pitcher Ryan Bergert impressed, throwing five strong innings, allowing just one hit, striking out six, and leaving with a 2-0 advantage. Kansas City (70-69) has lost three straight and seven of their last eleven contests.
In the eighth inning, with Kyle Isbel on second base, Angels reliever Andrew Chafin struck out Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. for the second out, then outdueled Vinnie Pasquantino in a 12-pitch battle, keeping the Angels safely ahead 4-3.
The Angels improved to 162-144 all-time at Kauffman Stadium and have now claimed the first two games of the current series.
The series concludes Thursday with Angels right-hander Kyle Hendricks (6-9, 4.89 ERA) scheduled to face Royals lefty Noah Cameron (7-6, 2.92 ERA).
Jo Adell led the way for the Los Angeles Angels, driving in all four runs and powering a comeback win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Key plays from the bullpen and defensive resilience helped the Angels clinch back-to-back wins in this series, while the Royals continue their recent struggles. Adell’s career-high home run and RBI numbers highlight his growing impact, and the Angels look to carry their momentum into the series finale.
