The Los Angeles Angels secured a 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Angel Stadium, powered by Jo Adell’s two-run home run and a strong pitching performance from Yusei Kikuchi.
The game started in favor of the Rays when Yandy Díaz doubled to right field and later scored on Junior Caminero’s sacrifice fly to center. Despite the early run, Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi limited further damage, finishing the night with six innings pitched, four hits allowed, seven strikeouts, and two walks.
In the second inning, Yoán Moncada reached on a fielder’s choice, setting the stage for Jo Adell. Adell launched a 428-foot two-run homer to left-center off Rays starter Adrian Houser, moving the Angels ahead 2-1.
The Angels continued their momentum in the third inning. Nolan Schanuel was hit by a pitch, and Mike Trout doubled to left to open the frame. Taylor Ward followed with a two-run single, putting Los Angeles up 4-1. In the sixth, Bryce Teodosio doubled and was brought home on Zach Neto’s double, extending the Angels’ lead to 5-1.
Adrian Houser allowed five runs on 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out three. Christopher Morel struggled at the plate, finishing 0-for-4 with four strikeouts as the Rays’ offense was held in check. Angels pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts, shutting down Tampa Bay after the first inning.
In the third inning, with the Angels holding a one-run lead, Ward’s two-run single after hits by Schanuel and Trout gave Los Angeles a comfortable advantage they would not relinquish.
Taylor Ward and Bryce Teodosio both collected three hits, fueling the Angels’ offense throughout the game.
The Rays and Angels will meet again Tuesday night. Tampa Bay is expected to start right-hander Ryan Pepiot (6-9, 3.80 ERA), while Los Angeles will counter with right-hander José Soriano (7-8, 3.65 ERA).
The Los Angeles Angels capitalized on timely hitting from Jo Adell, Taylor Ward, and Bryce Teodosio to claim a 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Yusei Kikuchi’s strong six-inning performance, paired with 12 strikeouts from Angels pitching, limited Tampa Bay’s offense. The two teams will continue their series on Tuesday, with both clubs aiming to gain ground in the MLB standings.
