Chris Taylor ignited the Angels' late rally by drawing a one-out walk from A’s reliever Osvaldo Bido in the eighth inning. Oswald Peraza was then hit by a pitch—the fifth Angels batter to be hit in the game, setting a new franchise record.
After coming in for injured catcher Logan O’Hoppe in the seventh, d’Arnaud came through with a clutch ground-rule double to right-center, putting the Angels ahead 4-3.
Reid Detmers picked up his fifth win of the season, despite allowing a run in the eighth. Kenley Jansen closed the door in the ninth, retiring the side in order for his 26th save. Left-hander Mitch Farris, in just his second MLB start, held the Athletics to two runs and three hits over six innings.
Athletics starter Luis Severino gave up three runs on four hits across five innings on the mound.
Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe left the game in the seventh after A's shortstop Jacob Wilson accidentally struck him on the chin with his bat during a warm-up swing.
In the seventh inning, with two runners on and one out, A’s pinch-hitter Carlos Cortes grounded into a 4-6-3 double play started by Taylor, helping the Angels maintain their 3-2 lead at the time.
Jo Adell is scorching at the plate, batting .347 with 10 home runs and 22 RBIs in his last 20 games, including four go-ahead homers within seven games this month.
The Athletics send right-hander Luis Morales (3-0, 1.59 ERA) to the mound against the Red Sox’s Garrett Crochet (14-5, 2.67 ERA) on Monday in Sacramento. The Angels will have right-hander Caden Dana (0-0, 4.91 ERA) start against Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (5-4, 4.53 ERA) on Monday in Anaheim.
The Los Angeles Angels emerged with a narrow 4-3 win over the Oakland Athletics, thanks to a pivotal eighth-inning rally and strong bullpen performance. Jo Adell continued his hot streak with another home run, while Travis d’Arnaud provided the game-winning RBI double. The Angels avoided a series sweep and look ahead to their next matchup in Anaheim, building momentum for the remainder of the MLB season.
