José Ramírez became the franchise leader in multihome run games with a crucial drive to right field in the eighth inning, powering the Cleveland Guardians to a 4-3 victory over the Miami Marlins. The win marks Cleveland’s sixth victory in their last seven games, continuing their strong stretch of performance.
Ramírez broke out of a recent slump, snapping an 0-for-12 streak with a solo homer in the first inning. He added another in the eighth when he lined a cutter just over the right field wall, putting Cleveland back in front. This marked the 27th multihomer game of his 13-year major league career, surpassing Guardians legends Jim Thome and Albert Belle. It’s his second such game this season, further cementing his legacy in Cleveland history.
Kyle Manzardo added to Cleveland’s offensive outburst with a home run, as the Guardians hit back-to-back homers in the first inning for the seventh time this season. Manzardo has continued his power surge, with three homers in his last two games.
Miami tied the game in the fifth inning with a three-run rally. Dane Myers delivered an RBI single to left-center, and a throwing error by Cleveland’s Steven Kwan allowed Otto Lopez to score and pushed Myers to third. Heriberto Hernández followed with a double down the left-field line to bring in Myers, leveling the score at 3-3.
In the sixth inning, Miami’s Eric Wagaman attempted to score from second base on a hit by Agustín Ramírez, but Steven Kwan delivered his MLB-leading 11th outfield assist of the season. Kwan’s perfect throw enabled catcher Bo Naylor to make the tag at home, preventing the Marlins from taking the lead.
Reliever Cade Smith recorded 1 1/3 scoreless innings for Cleveland to earn the victory, navigating through key portions of Miami’s order to secure the Guardians' narrow win.
Cleveland will send right-hander Gavin Williams (7-4, 3.17 ERA) to the mound in the next game, making his first start since coming within two outs of a no-hitter against the Mets on August 6. Miami counters with right-hander Eury Perez (4-3, 3.25 ERA) as the Marlins look to bounce back.
José Ramírez’s historic night propelled the Cleveland Guardians to a 4-3 victory over the Miami Marlins, highlighted by his record-setting 27th multihomer game. The win strengthens Cleveland’s momentum as key performances from Ramírez, Manzardo, and Kwan fueled another Guardians triumph. With strong defense and timely hitting, Cleveland continues to be a force in the MLB season as they prepare for the next matchup with Gavin Williams on the mound.
