Jurickson Profar delivered in the clutch, driving in two runs with a bases-loaded, two-out single in the eighth inning to lift the Atlanta Braves to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the New York Mets.
The Mets, after taking the first two games, aimed for their first-ever sweep at Truist Park since its opening in 2017. Their last series sweep in Atlanta came at Turner Field in 2016, but the Braves’ late rally thwarted those plans.
With Atlanta trailing, Profar stepped up in the eighth inning. After a single by Ozzie Albies, a walk to Sean Murphy, and a hit-by-pitch of Vidal Bruján by Mets reliever Gregory Soto, Profar sent a two-run single just in front of center fielder Cedric Mullins, giving the Braves a 4-2 lead.
In the ninth, Juan Soto delivered an RBI single for New York, cutting the deficit to 4-3. However, Braves closer Raisel Iglesias closed the door, retiring Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil with two on base to notch his 22nd save of the season.
Mark Vientos powered the Mets’ offense with a two-run homer in the second. Vientos' home run followed a standout performance with two homers in Saturday’s 9-2 win. For the Braves, Sean Murphy snapped a career-worst 0-for-24 slump with a crucial bloop single in the second.
Mets starter David Peterson pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and coming up just shy of a third straight outing of at least six innings for New York starters. Tyler Kinley picked up the win for Atlanta after pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
Sean Murphy’s bases-loaded single with two outs in the sixth inning drove in two runs, leading to David Peterson’s exit and keeping the Braves within striking distance.
Sean Murphy ended a National League–long 0-for-24 slump with his bloop single in the second inning, marking a significant turning point for both player and team.
The Mets head home to face the Phillies in a pivotal series, with Kodai Senga slated to pitch on four days’ rest for the first time this year. The Braves will open a three-game set in Miami, with Spencer Strider scheduled to start against the Marlins.
The Atlanta Braves secured a dramatic comeback victory over the New York Mets, 4-3, at Truist Park thanks to Jurickson Profar's clutch eighth-inning hit. The win prevented a Mets sweep in Atlanta and underscored the Braves' resilience in late-game situations. Mark Vientos continued his power surge for the Mets, while Sean Murphy broke out of a prolonged slump for Atlanta. As both teams look ahead to crucial divisional series, the NL East race remains heated and full of drama.
