Noah Cameron pitched into the sixth inning and Salvador Perez hit a go-ahead home run as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-1, extending their recent dominance over their AL Central rivals.
The Royals are now 18-3 against the White Sox since the start of last season, including a four-game sweep earlier this year. Kansas City jumped out to an early lead in the first inning after Aaron Civale surrendered three straight singles.
Noah Cameron (7-5) set the Royals rookie record at Kauffman Stadium by pushing his scoreless streak to 19 1/3 innings before Lenyn Sosa launched a two-out home run in the fourth to tie the game. Cameron responded by retiring the next four batters. In the fifth inning, Cameron loaded the bases but John Schreiber entered and induced Sosa into an inning-ending double play.
Salvador Perez broke the tie in the fourth, smashing a 1-0 pitch over the right-field wall for a 2-1 Royals advantage. Adam Frazier added a key two-out RBI double in the sixth to cushion Kansas City's lead.
The Kansas City bullpen was sharp, combining for 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Carlos Estévez struck out the side in the ninth to record his 31st save of the season and seal the win.
In the fifth inning, Royals manager Matt Quatraro was ejected by second base umpire Tom Hanahan after Kyle Isbel was thrown out trying to steal second. Quatraro argued that the White Sox blocked the bag, but the call stood. Crew chief Todd Tichenor eventually got Quatraro back to the dugout.
The White Sox have lost nine of their last eleven games, struggling to find momentum late in the season.
The series continues Saturday night, with Chicago sending right-hander Sean Burke (4-9, 4.26 ERA) to the mound. Kansas City will start Michael Lorenzen (5-8, 4.61 ERA), making his first appearance since coming off the injured list.
The Kansas City Royals extended their mastery over the Chicago White Sox with a strong showing on the mound from Noah Cameron and the bullpen, timely offense from Salvador Perez and Adam Frazier, and another late-inning save from Carlos Estévez. The Royals' dominance in the AL Central matchup continues as Chicago's struggles persist, setting the stage for the rest of the series.
