The Arizona Diamondbacks snapped the Texas Rangers' six-game win streak with a 5-3 victory at Chase Field. Ketel Marte delivered the decisive blow, launching a three-run homer in the seventh inning to break a tie and push the Diamondbacks ahead.
Jorge Barrosa and Jordan Lawlar started the seventh with singles off Rangers reliever Hoby Milner. Ketel Marte followed with a 414-foot drive into left-center, marking his 25th home run of the season and giving Arizona a 5-2 lead. Notably, Marte has now homered in four straight games against Texas.
Despite the loss, the Rangers maintain a strong playoff standing, remaining just 1.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the final American League wild card spot. Texas fell to 72-68 after the defeat.
Nabil Crismatt got the start for Arizona, pitching 6 1/3 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits in what was just his fourth career start. Jalen Beeks (5-1) came in for the final two outs of the seventh to earn the win. Rookie Taylor Rashi finished the game, giving up one run in two innings for his second multi-inning save in as many major league appearances.
Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Michael Helman led off the third with his first career triple and scored on Wyatt Langford’s sacrifice fly. In the fourth, Cody Freeman reached base on a two-out infield single and scored from first on Alejandro Osuna’s bloop single to center.
Rangers starter Jacob Latz pitched well into the sixth but ran into trouble with a pair of walks. Luis Curvelo relieved him but surrendered an RBI single to Blaze Alexander and a sacrifice fly to Ildemaro Vargas as Arizona tied the game at two. Latz was ultimately charged with two runs and five hits over 5 1/3 innings in his start, filling in for the injured Nathan Eovaldi.
In the top of the seventh, Jalen Beeks walked his first two batters but kept the game tied by retiring Michael Helman on a flyout and Josh Smith on a grounder, preventing the Rangers from regaining the lead before Marte's game-changing homer.
The Texas Rangers have not committed an error in 19 consecutive games, setting a new franchise record for defensive consistency.
The series concludes as Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter (9-7, 3.77 ERA) faces Diamondbacks ace Zac Gallen (10-13, 4.94 ERA) in the rubber match.
The Arizona Diamondbacks halted the Texas Rangers' six-game winning streak, fueled by Ketel Marte's three-run homer. Strong pitching performances and timely hitting defined the matchup, while Texas maintained its chase for the final AL Wild Card despite the loss. Defensive excellence continued for Texas, setting a franchise errorless streak, as the series heads into a pivotal finale.
