Kiké Hernandez delivered a clutch two-run double in the ninth inning, propelling the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-3 win against the Seattle Mariners. The Dodgers showcased their pitching strength, notching 15 strikeouts and securing their fifth consecutive victory.
The game’s turning point came in the top of the ninth inning. Mariners closer Andrés Muñoz walked Michael Conforto and Alex Call to start the inning. After both runners advanced on a groundout by Miguel Rojas, Hernandez lined a breaking ball down the left field line, driving in the go-ahead runs and stunning the home crowd.
Edgardo Henriquez closed out the game with his first save of the season, striking out the side in the ninth. Remarkably, Los Angeles pitching retired the final nine Mariners hitters all via strikeout. Alex Vesia earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning, while Muñoz was tagged with the loss for Seattle.
Dalton Rushing broke the early deadlock with a two-run homer in the fifth inning off Mariners starter Logan Gilbert. In the sixth, Jorge Polanco answered for Seattle with a three-run blast, putting the Mariners temporarily ahead. The Dodgers tied the game in the seventh, as Michael Conforto scored on a wild pitch by Seattle reliever Logan Evans after reaching third on a single by Hernandez and a base hit from Hernandez.
Hernandez’s ninth-inning double proved decisive, energizing a large contingent of Dodgers fans in the stands and sealing the win for Los Angeles.
The Dodgers have now won 11 straight games over the Mariners. Seattle last defeated Los Angeles at T-Mobile Park on April 19, 2021.
In Sunday’s regular-season finale, Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw (10-2, 3.52 ERA) is scheduled to make the final regular season start of his career, facing Mariners right-hander Bryce Miller (4-5, 5.53 ERA).
The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak over the Seattle Mariners with a thrilling 5-3 comeback victory, highlighted by late-inning heroics from Kiké Hernandez and a dominant pitching performance. Dalton Rushing and Jorge Polanco exchanged pivotal home runs, but it was Hernandez’s timely double and the Dodgers’ ability to strike out the last nine Mariners hitters that secured the win. With this result, the Dodgers remain one of the league’s hottest teams heading into the final games of the regular season.
