Matt Olson delivered a standout performance, going 4 for 5 with a three-run home run as the Atlanta Braves secured an 11-3 win over the Washington Nationals on Monday night. Olson homered in his third consecutive game, notched three extra-base hits, and tallied four RBI for his second four-hit game of the season. Drake Baldwin also contributed with three hits and four RBI.
Olson’s home run over the right-field wall in the fifth inning extended Atlanta’s lead to 5-1. He later doubled down the left-field line in the seventh, bringing in Nacho Alvarez Jr. for a 7-1 advantage. The Braves maintained offensive pressure throughout the game, marking back-to-back victories following a recent four-game losing streak.
Starting pitcher Spencer Strider (6-13) snapped his recent skid, having lost five of his previous six starts. Strider pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six and walking two.
Daylen Lile gave the Nationals an early boost with his sixth home run of the season, putting Washington ahead 1-0 in the first inning. Lile extended his streak of reaching base safely to 15 games. Washington's offense struggled for much of the evening, failing to record a hit between Paul DeJong’s single in the fourth and the two runs they pushed across in the eighth inning.
Mitchell Parker (8-16) started for the Nationals and was charged with six runs on 10 hits over five innings of work.
The Nationals loaded the bases in the fourth inning, but Atlanta thwarted the threat with a double play. Drake Baldwin fielded a weak ground ball, tagged home, and then threw out Dylan Crews at first to end the inning and keep Atlanta in the lead.
After recording just one home run during a stretch of 34 games from July 21 through August 26, Matt Olson has hit seven home runs in his last 18 games. With his 26th homer of the season, Olson has now hit at least 25 home runs in each of his four seasons with the Braves.
Washington right-hander Jake Irvin (8-12, 5.70 ERA) is slated to make his seventh career start against the Braves in the first game of a doubleheader. Atlanta has not yet announced its starter for Game 1. In Game 2, Washington will send left-hander MacKenzie Gore (5-14, 4.14 ERA) to the mound against Atlanta’s Chris Sale (5-5, 2.52 ERA).
The Atlanta Braves continued their strong offensive showing with a commanding 11-3 win over the Washington Nationals, fueled by Matt Olson’s four-hit, four-RBI night, and solid pitching from Spencer Strider. With this victory, Atlanta builds momentum as they head into a doubleheader against Washington. Key defensive plays and timely hitting defined the game, highlighting both Olson’s power surge and the Nationals’ inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
