The Miami Marlins powered past the Colorado Rockies 9-7 in Denver, clinching a three-game sweep at Coors Field. Liam Hicks led the charge by matching his career high with four RBI, including his sixth home run of the season.
In addition to Hicks' standout performance, Otto Lopez and Heriberto Hernández each contributed home runs as the Marlins compiled an impressive total of 34 hits in the series. The offensive surge helped Miami secure its seventh win in eight games, maintaining their position six games behind the New York Mets for the final National League wild-card spot.
Sandy Alcantara (10-12) delivered a strong performance on the mound, striking out eight and allowing only three runs across 6 2/3 innings pitched. Showing a significant turnaround, Alcantara has posted a 6-3 record with a 3.18 ERA over his last 11 starts, compared to a 4-9 record and 7.14 ERA in his first 19 appearances of the season.
The Rockies attempted a comeback with a four-run ninth inning, but Calvin Faucher closed out the game by forcing Jordan Beck into a groundout, earning his 14th save of the season. Despite a strong showing from Blaine Crim—who homered twice in just his 11th major league game—the Rockies were unable to overcome their deficit. Mickey Moniak extended his home run streak to four games with a two-run shot in the ninth.
For the Rockies, Tanner Gordon (6-7) surrendered four runs (three earned) over six innings. The Rockies’ 112th loss broke the modern National League record for most losses in a season, surpassing the 2004 Arizona Diamondbacks.
Liam Hicks and Otto Lopez hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 Marlins lead that set the tone for the remainder of the contest.
The Rockies’ 112th loss marks the most by a National League team since 1969.
The Marlins will send right-hander Janson Junk (6-3, 4.48 ERA) to face Tyler Mahle (6-3, 2.34 ERA) and the Texas Rangers on Friday. The Rockies will start Bradley Blalock (1-5, 9.00 ERA) against a to-be-announced starter from the visiting Los Angeles Angels.
The Miami Marlins capped off a dominant series in Colorado with a 9-7 victory highlighted by Liam Hicks’ four RBI performance. Despite a late rally by the Rockies and historic home runs by rookie Blaine Crim and Mickey Moniak, Colorado set a new NL record for losses. With seven wins in their last eight, the Marlins remain in the playoff hunt as they look ahead to their next matchup against the Rangers, while the struggling Rockies prepare to face the Angels.
