The Oakland Athletics snapped an eight-game losing streak with an impressive 10-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night in West Sacramento. The A’s showcased their power at the plate, getting home runs from Colby Thomas, Shea Langeliers, and Nick Kurtz to secure the win.
Colby Thomas and Nick Kurtz led the Athletics’ offense, each recording three hits and driving in three runs. Thomas, a 24-year-old rookie, delivered a three-run homer in the third inning, putting the A’s ahead early. Kurtz followed with his own three-run blast in the eighth to cap Oakland’s scoring.
Shea Langeliers contributed with a solo shot off Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi and added an RBI single, showcasing his power and consistency at the plate.
Rookie pitcher Jack Perkins (2-2) made his third career start for the Athletics. He went five innings, striking out seven while allowing three runs on five hits and three walks. Perkins has found early success in the majors, having earned a win in his previous start against the Baltimore Orioles.
The Angels tried to rally in the fifth inning when Zach Neto launched a home run following a walk to Bryce Teodosio, narrowing the deficit to 4-3. Earlier, Travis d’Arnaud had doubled to drive in Yoán Moncada for the visiting team. However, the Angels managed just one hit in seven opportunities with runners in scoring position.
Yusei Kikuchi (6-8) took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits over four innings of work. The Angels' offense struggled against the Athletics’ pitching and timely defense.
In the third inning, Brent Rooker doubled and advanced to third on Kurtz’s single. Thomas then stepped up and crushed a first-pitch curveball over the left-center wall for a three-run homer, giving the Athletics a comfortable 4-1 lead.
The Athletics went 6-for-9 with runners in scoring position, while the Angels managed just 1-for-7 in those situations. That clutch hitting helped Oakland break their slump and take control of the game.
The series continues Saturday as Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson (2-7, 4.63 ERA) faces off against Athletics right-hander Luis Morales (0-0, 1.93 ERA).
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Los Angeles Angels 10-3, powered by home runs from Colby Thomas, Shea Langeliers, and Nick Kurtz. Rookie Jack Perkins delivered a strong start to help Oakland break their eight-game losing streak. The Athletics excelled with runners in scoring position and look to continue their momentum as the series progresses.
