The Atlanta Braves secured a 4-3 victory over the New York Mets in an exciting matchup at Citi Field. Ozzie Albies was the standout performer for the Braves, delivering a home run, an RBI double to give Atlanta the lead in the eighth inning, and an RBI single earlier in the game.
Braves starter Bryce Elder pitched seven innings, giving up three runs (two earned) to earn his fifth win of the season. Raisel Iglesias closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning for his 17th save.
Albies opened the scoring for the Braves with a solo home run in the third inning off Mets starter Kodai Senga. He later added an RBI single in the sixth and then delivered the decisive RBI double in the eighth, driving in Michael Harris II. Harris had previously tied the game with an RBI double off Mets reliever Ryan Helsley.
Francisco Lindor hit a solo home run for the Mets in the third inning. Brandon Nimmo contributed a sacrifice fly and Pete Alonso delivered an RBI single in the sixth to give the Mets a temporary 3-2 lead.
Kodai Senga pitched 5 2/3 innings for New York, surrendering two runs.
In a crucial point during the eighth inning, Dylan Lee came in for the Braves and struck out Juan Soto on three pitches before getting Brandon Nimmo to ground out, stranding Francisco Lindor at first base and preserving Atlanta’s slim lead.
Ozzie Albies now has 81 RBIs against the Mets, his highest total versus any team. For the Mets, Lindor and Soto each stole a base, extending the team’s record streak of 36 consecutive stolen bases without being caught.
The Mets stay at home to open a series against the Seattle Mariners on Friday. Sean Manaea is projected to take the mound for the Mets, facing Mariners ace Luis Castillo. The Braves continue their road trip, traveling to face the Cleveland Guardians. Hurston Waldrep is set to start for Atlanta against Joey Cantillo of Cleveland.
The Atlanta Braves continued their dominance over the New York Mets this season, improving to 7-3 in head-to-head matchups. Ozzie Albies powered the offense with multiple RBIs, while Bryce Elder delivered a strong start and Raisel Iglesias closed the door. The loss continues a difficult stretch for the Mets, who have now dropped 13 of their last 15 games and saw their wild-card lead shrink. Both teams look to bounce back in their upcoming series, as the Braves face the Guardians and the Mets take on the Mariners.
