The San Diego Padres delivered an impressive performance against the San Francisco Giants, securing an 11-1 win to complete a three-game sweep at Oracle Park. The Padres’ offense was on fire, collecting 14 hits, while their pitching staff kept the Giants' bats quiet throughout the contest.
Padres pitcher Nick Pivetta continued his strong season, allowing just one run over 6 2/3 innings. Pivetta surrendered only four hits, struck out five batters, and issued just one walk. He retired 11 consecutive Giants from the third inning to the seventh, helping preserve the Padres’ large lead.
San Diego’s offense broke the game open in the second inning with a seven-run outburst. Jake Cronenworth and Fernando Tatis Jr. each delivered key two-run singles. Six of those seven runs were earned and came off Giants starter Kai-Wei Teng, who faced control issues and walked three batters in the frame.
Ramón Laureano had a standout performance, collecting three hits including a two-run home run in the fifth inning off Joey Lucchesi. Laureano's 17th home run of the season, since joining San Diego at the trade deadline, fueled a three-run fifth for the Padres and further extended their lead.
With this win, the Padres extended their winning streak to five games and moved a half-game ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the competitive National League West race. The Giants, on the other hand, have now dropped five straight home games and have been outscored 32-5 during that skid.
A pivotal play occurred in the second inning when Cronenworth hit a soft liner up the middle with the bases loaded. The ball deflected off second base and rolled into short center field, allowing two runs to score and giving the Padres an early lead that set the tone for the rest of the game.
Dominic Smith saw his 15-game hitting streak—the longest active streak in Major League Baseball and the longest for a Giants batter since 2020—come to an end after going 0-for-4 at the plate.
The Padres travel to Los Angeles to begin a crucial three-game series against the Dodgers on Friday night. The Giants will look to bounce back as they send RHP Landen Roupp (7-6, 3.11 ERA), returning from the injured list, to the mound for Friday’s home contest against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The San Diego Padres completed a dominant sweep of the San Francisco Giants with an 11-1 victory, propelled by strong pitching from Nick Pivetta and a relentless offense led by Ramón Laureano. This timely win puts the Padres in first place in the NL West and extends their winning streak, while the Giants continue to struggle at home. The Padres head to Los Angeles full of momentum, as the Giants seek to break out of their slump.
