The Texas Rangers claimed a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night in Arlington, highlighted by a stellar pitching performance from Patrick Corbin and a historic home run from Corey Seager.
Patrick Corbin turned in a masterful performance, allowing just three hits and one walk across eight shutout innings while racking up eight strikeouts. His outing lowered his ERA to 1.93 in four starts against the Angels this season and improved his record to 7-9. This win marked Corbin’s first since July 10, also against the Angels.
Wyatt Langford led off the Rangers’ first inning by drawing a walk. Corey Seager followed by drawing another walk with one out. Adolis García delivered the opening punch with an RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Josh Jung and a sacrifice fly from Cody Freeman, giving Texas an early 3-0 lead.
Jonah Heim walked to start the second inning, and rookie Michael Helman hit his second career home run, expanding the advantage to 5-0. In the fourth, Kyle Higashioka launched a 421-foot home run to left-center, increasing the lead to 6-0. Corey Seager later became the first Ranger of the season to reach 20 home runs, hitting a solo shot in the seventh inning.
Late in the game, Danny Coulombe surrendered a solo home run to Zach Neto, his 23rd of the season, while Jo Adell blasted his career-best 30th with a two-run shot. Phil Maton came in to secure the final two outs, sealing the win for Texas.
Yusei Kikuchi started for the Angels and struggled, allowing six runs on four hits and three walks over four innings. The Angels have now lost eight of their last eleven games, while the Rangers climbed back to .500 with a 67-67 record.
The Angels threatened early when Zach Neto doubled to lead off the game and advanced to third on a flyout by Mike Trout. Corbin, however, retired Taylor Ward and Jo Adell on groundouts, ending the inning and allowing just one more Angels baserunner to reach scoring position over the next seven frames.
Patrick Corbin has not missed a scheduled start in nine consecutive MLB seasons, underlining his durability and consistency on the mound.
The Rangers have yet to name a starting pitcher for Wednesday’s series finale against the Angels. Los Angeles is scheduled to send left-hander Tyler Anderson (2-8, 4.73 ERA) to the mound.
The Texas Rangers defeated the Los Angeles Angels 7-3, fueled by an eight-inning shutout performance from Patrick Corbin and key home runs from Corey Seager and Kyle Higashioka. The victory brought the Rangers back to a .500 record, while the Angels continued to struggle. This tightly contested series will conclude with both teams looking to build momentum in the final weeks of the MLB season.
