The Philadelphia Phillies continued their impressive run with a commanding 5-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Max Kepler and Brandon Marsh provided the power at the plate, while Taijuan Walker delivered six scoreless innings on the mound, helping the NL East leaders extend their winning streak to three games.
Brandon Marsh opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI double that brought Nick Castellanos home. Later in the game, Marsh launched a solo home run, his third in the past seven games, ending an 18-game homerless stretch. Max Kepler followed Marsh’s double in the second with a two-run homer, his 12th of the season, pushing the Phillies to an early lead. Bryson Stott added an RBI triple off the top of the right-field wall in the fourth to score Kepler, giving Philadelphia a solid margin.
Taijuan Walker improved to 4-5 on the year, tossing six shutout innings, scattering four hits, striking out four batters, and not allowing any walks. His performance stifled the Orioles’ lineup, keeping Baltimore off the scoreboard for the entire game.
Dean Kremer took the loss for the Orioles, allowing eight hits and four earned runs over six innings of work. Despite entering the game with the best win percentage by any Orioles pitcher against NL East teams in franchise history, Kremer couldn’t solve the Phillies’ bats.
Jordan Westburg had a pair of hits for Baltimore, but the Orioles dropped their fifth game in six tries. The defeat also ended Baltimore’s streak of seven straight games with a home run against the Phillies, stretching back to July 24, 2023.
Max Kepler’s two-run home run in the second inning gave the Phillies a comfortable early lead and set the tone for the rest of the game.
Nick Castellanos extended his hitting streak to six games with a single in the second inning. He advanced to second on a balk before coming around to score on Marsh’s double, stretching his run-scoring streak to seven consecutive games.
The Orioles will look to bounce back in the series finale as left-hander Trevor Rogers (4-2, 1.44 ERA) takes the mound against Phillies left-hander Ranger Suárez (8-4, 2.68 ERA) on Wednesday.
The Philadelphia Phillies showcased a dominant performance both offensively and defensively, shutting out the Baltimore Orioles 5-0.
