Noah Cameron and four Kansas City Royals relievers combined to deliver a dominant eight-hit shutout as the Royals defeated the Minnesota Twins 2-0 on Saturday night in Minneapolis. Mikel Garcia recorded two hits and an RBI to lead Kansas City at the plate.
Noah Cameron improved his record to 6-5, pitching 5 2/3 innings with six hits allowed and four strikeouts before turning the game over to the bullpen. Carlos Estévez closed out the game, striking out two batters in the ninth to earn his 29th save of the season.
The Minnesota Twins left 10 runners on base and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position, missing key opportunities to score. Despite getting eight hits, they were unable to capitalize and break through against the Royals’ pitching staff.
Mikel Garcia broke the scoreless deadlock in the third inning with an RBI single, putting the Royals on the board. In the ninth inning, Jonathan India provided an insurance run with an RBI single, scoring Adam Frazier for his 30th run of the season.
Twin’s catcher Matt Jeffers continued his impressive run at the plate, extending his hitting streak to 12 games by going 3-for-4, striking out once. On the mound for the Twins, Bailey Ober fell to 4-7 despite pitching six solid innings, allowing only four hits and one run.
Ryan Bergert (1-1) is set to start for the Royals in the final game of the series scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. The Minnesota Twins have yet to announce their starting pitcher for the matchup.
