WASHINGTON – The Washington Nationals beat the Texas Rangers 2-0 on June 6, 2025, behind a strong pitching performance from Michael Soroka.
Soroka (3-3) struck out seven over six sparkling innings, allowing just two hits and walking one.
Brad Lord and Jose A. Ferrer each pitched a scoreless inning before Kyle Finnegan closed out the two-hitter for his 18th save.
The game was completed in a swift 1 hour, 50 minutes.
Texas managed only two hits: Adolis García singled in the fifth, and Josh Smith added a single in the sixth. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Rangers.
The Nationals scored their first run in the second inning. Nathaniel Lowe and Alex Call hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Lowe advanced to third on a flyout and scored on a groundout by Robert Hassell III.
Call extended the lead in the seventh inning, hitting his first home run of the season.
Patrick Corbin (3-5) took the loss for the Rangers despite pitching well against his former team. He allowed two runs on five hits over eight innings, his longest start of the season. He struck out two and walked none.
Corbin, 35, pitched for the Nationals for six seasons (2019-2024), going 47-77 with a 5.11 ERA before signing with the Rangers in March 2025. His tenure included a significant role in the Nationals' 2019 World Series championship, where he earned the win in Game 7.
The Rangers threatened to score in the sixth inning, putting two runners on base. However, Michael Soroka escaped the jam by inducing a fly out from Marcus Semien.
The loss highlighted the Rangers' road struggles, as they have now lost nine of their last 10 road games and six straight road series openers.
The series continues on Saturday. The Rangers are expected to start right-hander Jacob deGrom (5-2, 2.34 ERA), who has allowed two runs or fewer in nine consecutive starts. He will face Nationals left-hander Mitchell Parker (4-5, 4.71 ERA).
