Spencer Steer delivered a standout performance, launching a home run and driving in five runs to propel the Cincinnati Reds to a 6-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. This win on Wednesday afternoon allowed the Reds to claim the rubber match in the three-game series at Busch Stadium.
The Reds, now sitting at a 76-76 record, found their offense at the right time with 11 hits against the Cardinals. In the fourth inning, Sal Stewart and Elly De La Cruz each drew walks with one out against Cardinals starter Andre Pallante. Spencer Steer then stepped to the plate and crushed his 18th home run of the season, giving Cincinnati a lead they would not relinquish.
Brady Singer improved to 14-10, giving up just two runs (one earned) and three hits across 5 2/3 innings. He continued his impressive late-season form, showcasing command and efficiency to stifle the Cardinals offense.
St. Louis managed only five hits, with Alec Burleson providing an early spark when he hit his 18th homer in the first inning. However, the Cardinals could not sustain offensive momentum. Andre Pallante endured another tough outing, surrendering four runs on six hits in five innings. He remains winless in his last nine starts, with a current record of 6-15.
Spencer Steer’s 411-foot three-run homer in the fourth was the turning point, coming off a 95.2 mph fastball from Pallante and leaving the bat at 106.1 mph. The blast gave Cincinnati the upper hand and shifted the energy firmly in the Reds’ favor.
Brady Singer has now posted a 5-1 record with a brilliant 1.94 ERA over his last seven starts, tallying 14 wins for a new career high. This consistency has helped keep the Reds in the playoff chase.
The Cardinals edged the Reds 7-6 in the overall season series, but Cincinnati delivered when it mattered most in this final matchup.
Hunter Greene (6-4, 3.01 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound on Thursday in the opener of a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.
Sonny Gray (13-8, 4.43 ERA) will kick off a weekend series on Friday against the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cincinnati Reds powered past the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2, fueled by Spencer Steer’s five RBI game and a strong start from Brady Singer. With this victory, the Reds remain in the hunt for a National League wild card berth. The Cardinals, despite early offense from Alec Burleson, could not keep pace and dropped the rubber match. Both teams now look ahead to pivotal series as the regular season nears its conclusion.
