The Cincinnati Reds surged late to secure a 6-1 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks, avoiding a series sweep at Chase Field. Spencer Steer delivered the pivotal blow for the Reds, launching a three-run home run in the eighth inning to cap a five-run rally.
Spencer Steer's 16th home run of the season proved decisive, sending a 397-foot drive over the left-field fence and giving Cincinnati a secure lead as they moved deeper into their road trip. The offensive explosion in the eighth inning broke a tie and provided much-needed momentum for the Reds.
Austin Hays paced the Reds with three hits and an RBI, while Noelvi Marte added two hits and scored twice, sparking critical rallies. Marte’s leadoff single in the eighth inning set the stage for the scoring outburst. He also tripled and later crossed the plate in the sixth inning on a throwing error to tie the game.
Brady Singer was dominant on the mound for Cincinnati, striking out nine batters over six innings while allowing just one hit. Graham Ashcraft came in to pitch a scoreless seventh and secured the win, improving his record to 8-5.
Arizona starter Zac Gallen was efficient, holding the Reds in check with seven strikeouts over six innings, but the Diamondbacks' offense was limited to only two hits throughout the game.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. accounted for Arizona’s only run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Diamondbacks' bats were otherwise quiet, unable to take advantage of Zac Gallen’s strong start.
Steer’s three-run homer broke open a tight game and sent Cincinnati into their next series with a boost of confidence.
The Reds have now won the finale in a series after trailing 0-2 for the eighth time this season, and remain the only team in Major League Baseball that has yet to be swept in 2025.
