The Cleveland Guardians secured a commanding 4-0 win over the Chicago White Sox, highlighted by an exceptional two-hitter complete-game shutout from Tanner Bibee. This victory marked Cleveland's first complete-game shutout in a nine-inning contest in six years.
Tanner Bibee (10-11) delivered one of the best pitching performances of his career, striking out 10 batters without issuing a walk. Bibee allowed only two hits on his way to his second complete game of the season and his first career shutout. After surrendering back-to-back singles in the third inning, Bibee forced Mike Tauchman into a double play to escape the threat, then allowed just two additional baserunners—a fielding error in the sixth and a hit batter in the ninth.
Cleveland's offense came alive in the fourth inning when David Fry crushed a two-out, solo home run to left field, breaking a scoreless tie. The Guardians added to their lead in the fifth with a single by Jhonkensy Noel, who later scored on Austin Hedges' two-out single. The momentum continued in the sixth, as Gabriel Arias doubled with two outs and Nolan Jones brought him home with an RBI single. Angel Martínez capped off the scoring with his 11th home run of the season in the eighth inning.
Martín Pérez (1-5) started for the White Sox, allowing three runs on four hits over six and two-thirds innings. Pérez, who shined with a hitless start in March, has yet to find the win column since then, going 0-4 in six outings following a four-month stint on the injured list with left elbow inflammation. White Sox rookie catcher Kyle Teel saw his 20-game on-base streak come to an end after going hitless in four at-bats.
The Guardians, now 76-71, have won seven of their last eight games and continue to find ways to succeed—despite José Ramírez batting just .095 (4 for 42) against the White Sox this season. Cleveland has still managed to win nine out of the eleven matchups with Chicago.
The turning point in the game came when Tanner Bibee induced a double-play grounder from Mike Tauchman in the third inning, quelling Chicago's only real threat of the night and propelling Bibee to cruise through the remainder of the game.
Despite a tough season at the plate against the White Sox for José Ramírez, the Guardians have emerged victorious in nine out of eleven contests between the teams.
The series continues as Chicago's right-hander Davis Martin (6-9, 4.03 ERA) faces off against Cleveland's left-hander Parker Messick (2-0, 1.93 ERA) on Saturday.
The Cleveland Guardians showcased dominant pitching and timely offense for a 4-0 shutdown of the Chicago White Sox, powered by Tanner Bibee's outstanding two-hit shutout and home runs from David Fry and Angel Martínez. The Guardians are on a roll with seven wins in eight games and are gaining crucial momentum as the season approaches its final stretch.
