Texas Rangers News & Updates

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Texas Rangers defeated the Los Angeles Angels 13-1 on Tuesday night. Nathan Eovaldi delivered a strong performance on the mound, allowing just one unearned run over six innings. The Rangers' offense was powered by home runs from Jake Burger and Wyatt Langford, who each drove in four runs.

Pitching Performance

Nathan Eovaldi earned the win for the Rangers, improving his record to 6-3. He surrendered five hits while striking out six and walking none, lowering his ERA to 1.62. This ERA is the best among major league pitchers with at least 80 innings pitched this season.

Angels starter José Soriano (6-6) held the Rangers hitless through three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth, walking three of the first four batters. Left-hander Sam Aldegheri was called up from Double-A and also struggled with control, walking three batters in the fifth inning.

Notably, infielder Kevin Newman pitched the final three innings for the Angels, and infielder Ezequiel Duran threw the ninth inning for the Rangers in the lopsided game.

Offensive Highlights

The Rangers' offense exploded with 13 runs. Corey Seager hit his 13th home run of the season. Evan Carter drove in three runs. Texas capitalized on nine walks issued by Angels pitchers, with six of those baserunners coming around to score.

A crucial five-run inning in the fourth inning gave the Rangers a 5-1 lead. Wyatt Langford hit a two-run double, Evan Carter followed with a ground-rule, two-run double, and Jake Burger added an RBI single. These runs were scored in rapid succession over six pitches. The Rangers added four more runs in the fifth inning and Seager's home run in the sixth extended their lead.

Key Moment

With the Angels leading 1-0, starter José Soriano began the fourth inning by throwing two strikes to Corey Seager. However, he then threw seven consecutive balls, walking Seager and Marcus Semien. This set the stage for the Rangers' five-run outburst that quickly turned the tide of the game.

Key Stat

Corey Seager has been particularly effective against the Angels. In his last 13 games against them, dating back to September 26, 2023, he is batting .447 (21 for 47) with five home runs, two doubles, nine RBIs, 10 walks, and no strikeouts.

Up Next

The series continues on Wednesday night. The Los Angeles Angels are scheduled to send right-hander Kyle Hendricks (5-6, 4.68 ERA) to the mound. He will face Texas Rangers right-hander Kumar Rocker (3-4, 5.80 ERA).
