The Texas Rangers continued their winning streak, securing a thrilling 7-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in extra innings. The Rangers have now won six games in a row and remain just 1 1/2 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the final American League wild card spot.
Alejandro Osuna, stepping up in a crucial moment, delivered a two-run single in the top of the 10th inning. With two outs and runners on second and third, Osuna lined a hit off Arizona reliever Juan Burgos that resulted in Michael Helman and Ezequiel Duran scoring. Duran impressively slid under the tag at the plate, securing the Rangers' lead.
Jake Burger made a significant impact in his first game back from the injured list, driving in a crucial run with an RBI triple in the ninth. His return came after a two-week absence due to a sprained left wrist, and his contribution helped spark the Rangers' comeback.
Trailing 5-3 in the ninth, the Rangers rallied as Burger's triple cut the lead, and Cody Freeman's two-out RBI single tied the game. Freeman also hit a two-run home run earlier, providing much-needed offensive firepower.
Arizona started strong, as Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo launched back-to-back solo home runs in the first inning off Texas starter Patrick Corbin. The D-backs jumped to a 3-0 lead after two innings, with Ryne Nelson striking out seven and allowing three runs across six innings.
Shawn Armstrong earned his sixth save, while Chris Martin picked up the win for Texas with a scoreless ninth inning. Corbin finished with five earned runs allowed over 5 2/3 innings. Arizona's Lourdes Gurriel Jr. left the game in the sixth after suffering a leg injury, which required him to be carted off the field.
Chris Martin induced a clutch double play from Ildemaro Vargas in the ninth inning after surrendering a single to Gabriel Moreno, preventing Arizona from scoring a walk-off run.
The consecutive home runs by Marte and Perdomo marked just the fourth time in Diamondbacks franchise history that two players have started a game with back-to-back longballs.
The Diamondbacks will send right-hander Nabil Crismatt to the mound on Tuesday night. The Rangers have not announced their starting pitcher for the next game.
The Texas Rangers staged a late-game rally to overcome the Arizona Diamondbacks, securing a 7-5 win in 10 innings with clutch performances from Alejandro Osuna, Jake Burger, and Cody Freeman. Strong early offense from Arizona was not enough, as Texas’ bullpen held firm and key moments swung the game in the Rangers’ favor. This momentum keeps Texas in the hunt for an AL wild card, while the Diamondbacks look to regroup and bounce back in the next matchup.
