The Texas Rangers pulled off a dramatic comeback against the Kansas City Royals, securing a 6-3 victory on Wednesday night. Kyle Higashioka delivered the decisive blow with a three-run double in the ninth inning following a costly two-out error by Vinnie Pasquantino. This late rally helped the Rangers overcome a determined Royals squad at Kauffman Stadium.
With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Wyatt Langford drew a walk off reliever Sam Long. Corey Seager then reached on an error by Pasquantino at first base, and Marcus Semien extended the inning with an infield single. Capitalizing on the Royals’ defensive miscue, Higashioka lined a double down the left-field line, clearing the bases and giving the Rangers a 6-3 lead.
Hoby Milner earned the win by recording the final four outs for Texas. The Rangers started with Caleb Boushley on the mound as he filled in for Jacob deGrom, who was sidelined with arm fatigue. Boushley rebounded after a tough first inning, throwing two scoreless frames to settle the Rangers’ defense.
The Royals jumped ahead in the first inning after Mike Yastrzemski and Bobby Witt Jr. singled, leading to Pasquantino’s 25th home run of the season and a 3-1 advantage. Witt Jr. stood out for Kansas City, collecting three hits including his league-leading 39th double.
For the Rangers, Wyatt Langford opened the game with his 18th home run, and continued his strong performance by singling and scoring in the third inning on a two-out hit by Semien. Kansas City starter Noah Cameron allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings, managing to hold off the Rangers early before the late-inning drama unfolded.
Jonah Heim’s leadoff double in the seventh inning set up the tying run for Texas. Heim scored on Seager’s two-out single off Kansas City reliever Lucas Erceg, knotting the score at 3-3 and setting the stage for the Rangers’ ninth-inning heroics.
Kyle Higashioka’s three-run double in the ninth inning provided the Rangers their first lead since the top of the first, changing the course of the game and sealing the victory.
Despite hitting the fewest home runs in the American League this season, the Royals have out-homered the Rangers 14-3 in the current season series, winning five of the last six matchups before tonight’s game.
The four-game series continues as left-hander Patrick Corbin (6-9, 4.45 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Rangers, looking to earn a series split. The Royals will counter with right-hander Michael Lorenzen (5-8, 4.43 ERA).
The Texas Rangers staged a late-game rally to overcome the Kansas City Royals, thanks to a clutch ninth-inning double by Kyle Higashioka.
