ANAHEIM, Calif. – On Friday, August 1, 2025, the Chicago White Sox defeated the Los Angeles Angels 6-3 in an 8:38 PM MLB game at Anaheim.
Andrew Benintendi contributed with a double and a home run, while Lenyn Sosa also homered among his two hits, leading the Chicago White Sox to a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
The White Sox offense started strong in the second inning, with Andrew Benintendi and Lenyn Sosa each hitting solo home runs off Angels starter Tyler Anderson (2-7). Luis Robert Jr. added to the lead in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly that drove Miguel Vargas home, making the score 3-0.
Gustavo Campero’s second home run of the year, a two-run blast to deep center field in the fifth, brought the Angels within one run. However, Colson Montgomery answered immediately for the White Sox with a deep homer of his own in the sixth inning.
The Angels continued to fight back as Logan O'Hoppe scored on Zach Neto's sacrifice fly, again narrowing the deficit. Nolan Schanuel appeared to drive in Travis D'Arnaud with a two-out single, but Campero was thrown out at third base prior to D'Arnaud crossing the plate, ending the Angels' threat.
Lenyn Sosa hit an RBI single in the eighth inning, and Josh Rojas added a solo home run in the ninth, providing crucial insurance runs for the White Sox.
White Sox starter Shane Smith, in his first start since July 11 following a stint on the 15-day IL, gave up two runs and two hits while striking out four over 4 1/3 innings. Jordan Leasure (4-6) earned the win in relief, striking out four in 1 2/3 innings. Steven Wilson secured the last six outs for his second save of the year.
A significant play in the game occurred in the seventh inning when Gustavo Campero's baserunning error led to him being thrown out at third base, preventing the game-tying run from scoring and extinguishing a bases-loaded, one-out threat for the Angels.
Colson Montgomery continued his impressive second-half performance with his solo home run, which marked his 18th RBI since the All-Star break. He is now tied with Philadelphia's Kyle Schwarber for the most RBI during that period.
The White Sox will face the Angels again, with White Sox RHP Aaron Civale (2-6, 4.38 ERA) scheduled to start opposite Angels RHP Kyle Hendricks (6-7, 4.73 ERA).
