The Arizona Diamondbacks snapped the Los Angeles Dodgers' four-game winning streak with a commanding 3-0 victory on Friday night at Dodger Stadium. This result helped the Dodgers maintain their two-game lead in the National League West, as second-place San Diego also fell to defeat in Minnesota.
Zac Gallen delivered a stellar performance for the Diamondbacks, allowing only two hits over six innings. Gallen (10-13) struck out eight batters and issued three walks, with only Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts escaping his strikeout streak. His strong outing held the Dodgers without any real offensive momentum.
Jake Woodford closed the game for Arizona, coming into the ninth inning and securing his second save of the season.
Blaze Alexander provided the offensive spark for Arizona with a two-out, two-run home run in the fourth inning, propelling the Diamondbacks into a 2-0 lead. The homer traveled 400 feet to left field and brought in Lourdes Gurriel Jr., who had singled earlier in the frame.
In the sixth inning, Corbin Carroll doubled to lead off and later scored on Gabriel Moreno's RBI single, prompting the Dodgers to pull starter Blake Snell (3-3) from the game. This extended Arizona's advantage to 3-0.
Ohtani managed an infield single in the third inning, aided by a bobble from first baseman Tyler Locklear. Mookie Betts recorded a double in the sixth, but those were the only two hits off Gallen. The Dodgers finished with three or fewer hits for the seventh time this season and suffered their seventh shutout loss.
Dodgers starter Blake Snell, pitching for the first time since welcoming his second child, struggled on the mound. He allowed three runs and four hits over 5 1/3 innings, striking out eight, walking three, and throwing two wild pitches. Snell’s fastball velocity never reached his average of 95.4 mph.
The Dodgers’ best chance came in the sixth inning, when they had two runners aboard and the tying run at the plate. Will Smith’s deep fly ball was caught on the warning track by Lourdes Gurriel Jr., ending the threat and preserving Arizona’s lead.
The Dodgers were limited to three or fewer hits for the seventh time this season and were shut out for the seventh time as well.
The series continues with Arizona sending left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (5-8, 5.67 ERA) to the mound to face Los Angeles’ right-hander Tyler Glasnow (1-2, 3.36 ERA) on Saturday night.
The Arizona Diamondbacks ended the Dodgers’ winning streak with a 3-0 victory behind Zac Gallen's dominant pitching and Blaze Alexander's two-run homer. The Dodgers’ offense was held in check, marking another shutout for Los Angeles this season. The NL West race remains tight, setting up an intriguing matchup for the next game in the series.
