On September 22, 2012, the Washington Nationals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 10-4. Gio Gonzalez was the winning pitcher for Washington, becoming the first player in Major League Baseball that year to reach twenty victories. During the game, Gonzalez also became the first pitcher for a Washington baseball team with 200 strikeouts in a season since Walter Johnson accomplished it in 1916. This win helped move the Nationals closer to clinching their first National League East division championship.
